NOVICE DRIVE/RIDE

 

12 mile Novice Ride, 6 and 12 mile Drives                                                      
Saturday, April 24th, 2004

This event is ideal for the novice driver or novice rider who would like to experience a competitive drive/ride and learn first hand how distance events are run, judged and scored.  You’ll experience or learn about competitive condensed rules, vet checks and presenting your horse, safety checks for drivers and equipment, how to do pulse and respiration, competitive pace and scoring, conditioning and feeding.

Where: Richard Loeb’s farm, N 2346 County Rd J, Lodi, WI 53555   

Schedule:  Vet In from 7 am to 10 am.  Condensed Clinic and Drive Meeting at 10 am.  Lunch at noon. The 12 mile novice ride will start at 1 pm.  The 12 mile drive will start at 1:30 pm and the 6 mile drive will begin immediately after. Drivers will be released at 5 minute intervals. Singles and Multiples are welcome.

Equipment: Helmets are mandatory for riders, drivers and passengers in a carriage. Spares kits for drivers should include a knife, screw driver, pliers, small hammer, leather punch, hoof pick, wheel wrench, length of rawhide string or wire, halter and lead rope for each horse, cooler or blanket for each horse.  Bring a hames strap if applicable, spare rein or splice, spare trace or splice. Drivers must carry a whip.

Directions to Richard Loeb’s farm in Columbia County, located between Poynette and Lodi, and easily reached from I 90-94.  Exit #115 (Poynette), go about 1 mile west on Hwy CS and take first left onto Hwy J and proceed 2.5 miles south to stop sign at Cty J and Cty V.  The long driveway to Richard Loeb farm is on the left immediately past the intersection.

Preregistration and Fees:  Preregistration is advised.  Audit & lunch - $15.  Clinic, lunch and ride/drive - $40 or $35 with new MDDA membership or MDDA certificate.  Some overnight and daytime outdoor stabling available for $5. Required trailer fee of $5.  Registrations sent after April 15, add $5. See reverse side for registration form.

Bring warm clothes and your own chairs.

Clinic held in covered arena.

Coggins Papers are required.
